چکیده

The chemical laboratory measures used in the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma have been evaluated. Bio-assay, fluorometric, and spectrophotometric methods were used. Urinary VMA and catechol amine values found for normal and hypertensive groups compared well with those reported by other investigators. The quantitative measurement of urinary VMA by means of a proposed ethyl acetate extraction proved quite reliable.

The determination of 3-methoxy 4-hydroxy mandelic acid in urine.

A simple and accurate method for determining 3-methoxy 4-hydroxy mandelic acid in urine is described. The amounts excreted in urine in 24 hours by nine normal subjects and three patients with phaeochromocytoma have been determined.

Urinary Excretion of Metabolites of Catecholamines in Normal Individuals and Hypertensive Patients.

The 24-hour urinary output of 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy mandelic acid (V.M.A.) has been determined in 20 normal adults, 150 hypertensive patients, and four cases of phaeochromocytoma. In this last group estimations of urinary catecholamines and total urinary methylated amines were also performed and the overall results have been compared with the urinary excretory pattern of catecholamines and their ...

The Excretion of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-mandelic Acid by Children.

Much interest has been shown recently in the urinary excretion of 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy-mandelic acid (HMMA, but also known as VMA). It is accepted that its estimation may assist in the diagnosis of neuroblastoma and phaeochromocytoma, the high excretion usually found with these tumours being well above that possibly due to dietary constitutents, the stress of hospital admission, or recent operat...

Excretion of 4-hydroxy-3 methoxy mandelic acid in cases of ulcerative colitis and diarrhoea of nervous origin.

Urinary excretion of 4-hydroxy-3 methoxy mandelic acid (VMA) was used as an index of catecholamine activity in 59 cases of ulcerative colitis compared with 59 controls and 18 cases of diarrhoea of nervous origin. No significant differences were observed between cases and controls but the level of VMA excretion was raised in nervous diarrhoea.

A Simple Low-voltage Paper Electrophoretic Method for the Determination of Urinary Vanillylmandelic Acid (vma).

A simple and accurate method for the determination of urinary 3-methoxy-4-hydroxy-mandelic acid, vanillyl-mandelic acid (VMA), is described. The separation of VMA from all other phenolic acids in approximately 0.05 ml. untreated urine is achieved by using low-voltage paper electrophoresis with different buffer concentrations for the cathode and the anode. The concentration of the electrophoreti...
